Air Data Quality and Assurance

Underpinning the continuing airworthiness of aircraft - an in-depth review and assurance of the quality of engineering and usage data

Technical data from Air System's operation, maintenance activities and technical instructions held within the Air System's Engineering and Asset Management (E&AM) system underpins the majority of the Continuing Airworthiness Maintenance Organisation's (CAMO) 9 tasks (MAA issued Regulatory Article 4947). E&AM systems often use real time manual data entry and automated calculations to drive activities such as maintenance forecasting. Consequently, manual data entry can introduce errors in either a gross form or credible erroneous form that could introduce significant airworthiness risks.

The Challenge

To provide Aviation Duty Holders with the assurance that the challenges posed by the Military Aviation Authority's (MAA) emerging regulations with respect to technical and engineering data for air systems are being met and/or shortfalls are identified, assessed and rectified. In parallel, provide an SME engineering data review capability to support satisfaction of the requirements of the Military Air System Technical Data Exploitation, BMAR)and MARC.

Solution

The LSC Group's Air System Data Assurance Team (ASDAT) to undertake the assessment of the technical data. Led by an experienced continuing airworthiness engineer, the team performs a detailed review of the engineering records and the organisation's continuing airworthiness processes being employed. Assurance evidence including data coherence and compliance is reported via a configurable dashboard, the content of which can be employed to underpin the current and future airworthiness of individual aircraft and fleets.

  • The use of a dedicated SQEP team maintains continuity and focus, enabling the Project Team to maintain the ‘decider' role and focus on their activities
